Traveling Light: A Post Jamaica Realization + Tips

Hey all? How goes it? Yes, how goes it? Hope you’re having a great summer. My summer has been off to wonderful start, many realizations, great people, readily available fruits, scuba lessons, and a holistic retreat to Jamaica. Actually, its been amazing and it’s getting better everyday. About a week ago I returned from an amazing retreat in the mountains to Jamaica. Now I have a sad confession to make.. I am not a light packer. No matter where I am going, I like to pack for multiple unlikely occasions just to be “safe”. What if there’s a tornado and I need sweatpants? What if there’s a formal occasion in the middle of the tropics? and yea… 20 pairs of panties are always necessary on 5 day trips. These are all slight exaggerations but you can see where my rationale is here. Actually there is none but I did learn something… $25 each way to check luggage that could’ve fit into a carryon was completely unccessary. So here are my 3 tips to optimize your luggage experience.

1: when packing, make a list, then go thru the list and separate the necessaries from from the “ah, but I mights..” (ie. Ah but I might need this wetsuit just in case I swim with whales in alaska.. yeaaaa, NO)

2: Have a trusted person go thru your list a clarify whats not really needed and what is. Often times friends and family offer level headed advice in the midst of packing mayhem.

3: Pick a luggage that is just the right smedium size and stick to it.. If your belongings dont fit in, then reevaluate what is packed, not the size luggage picked.

..and there you have it. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Im looking forward to sharing my amazing experience on the next post.

If you have any tips on packing light, please post them. As a recovering over-packer, i’d love to hear your ideas and solutions.

Yes! Affordable AND Cute Eco Fashion Can Be Yours

Hey guys, just wanted to share a local eco find I discovered at my local Whole Foods. Its already bad enough that I love grocery shopping, but when one of your most frequented stores carries clothes as well, its hard to not indulge. I decided to treat myself to a beautiful dress made by Threads 4 Thought (w/ 60% organic cotton). I love it bc its super comfy, soft, and feminine. Check it out…

Thumbs up to Threads 4 Thought!! Check them out + they have other really cute stuff. Now,  I have a confession. As you can see, I got 2… yes, dont judge me 😦 . I always feel like an old person when I buy different colors of the same thing but when you see something you like, why not get multiples right? Right! haha. Anyway, Im finding that a lot of stores are selling more sustainable clothing, quality vegan “leather”, etc. Good thing is, youre almost always getting better quality material regardless of the price.

You can find this adina dress on their website for $40 ($10 more than what I paid) here.. http://www.threadsforthought.com/store/adina-dress-1.html?color=periwinkle

I have more reviews + companies to check out coming soon, including $5 finds. Stay tuned! Also, a post on exactly what eco fashion is and why it’s for you.

Do you have any eco fashion clothing? Jewelry? Or pieces that were created locally? handmade? Id love to know.

recycle bags? what’s in it for YOU?

So by this time I have learned that not everyone cares about the planet. and simply off of basic morals alone, most dont feel compelled to do things like recycle. and based on my knowing, this person may or may not be you reading this. In case it is, im gonna provide a few quick reasons why recycling is for you..

1. A lot of stores give money credit for bringing your own bag(s) instead of using theirs. Now though this may be only 5 or 10 cents (per bag) lol, its still money that YOU arent paying but actually getting free. And who doesnt like free? FREE… do I need to say it again FREE.. ok I think you get the point. So ask your local store do they give bag credits, youd be surprised.

2. Reduces clutter.. Yes it reduces clutter. How you might ask? Several reasons. If youre like me, after shopping, I can rest assure you have a whole cabinet jam packed with plastic bags to “reuse.” Well what else can that cabinet space be used for? I mean, reusable bags dont take up that much space so if you make the switch, this free space can be allocated for more useful things 🙂

3. Dont you want to be the cool person at the store or wherever who has their own bag? Its a new chance to get creative (especially for kids), and if youre actually shopping at clothing stores, it can provide capacity for greater storage instead of shuffling 4 and 5 bags at the mall.

Now dont all jump at once, get out there and get to recycling…. 🙂
